In short
- This website uses no cookies, no advertising and no tracking scripts.
- When you ask for a reader bonus, we use your email address only to send you the download link once. We don't put it on any mailing list, and we delete it within 48 hours.
- Only if you ask for puzzle packs and then confirm by email (by ticking the box on a bonus page, or on our puzzle-pack page) do we keep your address, to send you a free puzzle pack when a new Basalt Bracken book comes out. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Who is responsible for your data
Basalt Bracken is the pen name of Krzysztof Przybylski, Deurne, based in the Netherlands, who is the “controller” of your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For questions or requests, write to [email protected].
1. Reader bonus (box not ticked)
- What we use: your email address.
- Why: to send you one email with the download link you asked for. Legal basis: carrying out your request (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
- How long: we never add your address to a mailing list. Our email service, Brevo, keeps a delivery record of that email (your address, the time, and whether it was delivered, opened or clicked). An automatic clean-up deletes this record within 48 hours of sending. As a safety net, Brevo erases all delivery records after 30 days at the latest.
- One exception: if the email bounces or you mark it as spam, Brevo keeps your address on a block list so that it is never emailed again. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in not sending unwanted email (Article 6(1)(f)).
2. Free puzzle packs (box ticked, or signed up at basaltbracken.com/newsletter)
- What we use: your email address; the date and time you signed up and confirmed (our proof of your consent); and which of our emails you open and which links you click, so we can see which puzzles readers enjoy.
- Why: to send you a free puzzle pack, with a short note about the new book, whenever a new Basalt Bracken book comes out. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)).
- Confirmation first: we send you an email asking you to confirm (“double opt-in”), so nobody can sign you up without your knowledge. If you don't confirm, you are not added, and the delivery records are deleted within 8 days.
- How long: until you unsubscribe. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can simply write to us. After you unsubscribe, Brevo keeps your address on a “do not email” list so we never email you again by mistake. Withdrawing consent does not affect emails sent before.
3. Visiting this website
- No cookies, no analytics, no ads and no social media buttons. Our fonts are stored on this website, so your browser doesn't contact Google or other font services.
- Our host, Cloudflare, processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the pages and to protect the site against attacks. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f)). We don't use this data to identify you.
- Links to Amazon take you to Amazon's website, where Amazon's own privacy policy applies.
4. Who processes data for us
- Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, Paris, France) sends our emails and stores data in the European Union.
- Cloudflare, Inc. (San Francisco, USA) hosts this website. Cloudflare may process data in the United States and is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Both work under data processing agreements. We never sell, rent or share your email address with anyone else.
5. Your rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, or to give it to you in a portable format. You can withdraw your consent at any time. Write to [email protected] and we'll reply within one month.
If you think we have mishandled your data, you can complain to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (the Dutch Data Protection Authority) or to the data protection authority where you live.
6. Children
Our puzzle books and emails are made for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.
7. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
